How to read the map
Each state's color comes from a mold-climate index built on NOAA climate normals, the long-run averages for precipitation and temperature. Mold needs warmth and moisture, so the states that stay warm and wet for much of the year give it the longest runway, and they score highest here.
The score is a background signal, not a verdict on any single house. Homes in low-scoring states still grow mold when a leak goes unnoticed, and homes in high-scoring states typically stay clear when indoor moisture is managed. Think of it as the difficulty setting your climate hands you.
To go from a state score to your own address, Your Home Report folds in local climate and home-age data and lists the offices to call in your area.
